DSA  driving test show me / tell me questions.

At the start of the test you will be asked two of the following questions .

1 . Open the bonnet , identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check the oil level.

Identify the dip stick , explain that you would take out the dip stick , wipe it , replace and remove again to check against min / max level.

2 . Open the bonnet , identify the brake fluid reservoir and tell me how you would check that you have sufficient fluid.

Point to the min / max level on the brake fluid reservoir.

3 . Open the bonnet , identify the coolant reservoir  and tell me how you would check that you had sufficient coolant.

Point to min / max on the coolant reservoir.

4 . Open the bonnet , identify the windscreen washer reservoir and tell how you would that you had sufficent screen wash.

Point to the high / low level on the reservoir.

5 . Show me how you would check the direction indicators are working.

Press the hazard switch on and walk around the car.

6 . Tell me how you would check the brakes are working before starting a journey.

As i move off i would apply pressure to the brakes , they should not feel spongy or slack and the car should not pull to one side.

7 . Show me how you would check the brake lights are working.

Turn on the ignition [do not start the car ] press the brake pedal use a reflection or ask him to check the lights.

8 . Show me /tell me how you would check the power assisted steering is working.

Start the car move the steering wheel slightly and explain that it should not feel heavy.

9 . Tell me where you would find the information for the recommended tyre pressure for this car and how you would check the tyre pressure.

The information would be in the hand book and i would go to a garage and use a reliable pressure gauge - check all 5 tyres when they are cold and replace dust caps.

10 . Show me how you would check the parking brake [handbrake ] for excessive wear.

Apply the foot brake - release the handbrake - pull the handbrake up to make sure it's not at the end of its working life and that it secures itself [about 4 to 6 clicks ].

11 . Tell me how you would make sure your head restraint is in the correct position.

Ajust the head restraint so it gives the best protection in the event of a collision.

12 . Tell me how you would check the general condition of the tyres are safe for road use.

Check there are no cuts or bulges and that they have atleast 1.6 mm of tread depth across the central 3/4 of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference.

13 . Show me how you would check the horn is working [ off road ].

Press the horn.

14 . Show me how you would clean the windscreen using the washer and wipers.

Turn on the ignition [ do not start the car ] operate the washer wiper switch.

15 . Tell me how you would check the headlights and tail [back] lights are working.

Explain that you would turn on the ignition then switch on the lights and walk around the car to check .

16 . Show me how you would switch your headlights from dipped to main beam and explain how you would know the main beam was on.

Turn on the ignition [do not start the car ] turn on the headlights operate the dip - beam switch and explain the blue light comes on when on full beam.

17 . Tell me how you would know if there was a problem with the anti lock brakeing system.

The ABS warning light would come on on the dashboard.

18. Show me how you would turn on the fog light [s] and explain when you would use it.

Turn on the ignition - turn on the headlights - turn on the fog light explain that you would use the fog light when visability was less than 100 metres.

19 . Show me how you would demist the windows.
